Exercise Can Cause Bacterial Vaginosis

There are many causes of bacterial vaginosis, one that is overlooked is excessive exercise. Thousands of women experience the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis each year. These symptoms include vaginal itching and burning as well as vaginal odor and discharge. Women who exercise often and aggressively naturally perspire a lot. Perspiration creates an acidic environment in the vaginal region which is the perfect condition for harmful bacteria to thrive and overtake normal flora designed to protect women from infection. It's not so much the perspiration that causes bacterial vaginosis, but rather insufficient cleansing after a workout that allows bacteria to grow and cause infection. Many times women will workout and not shower immediately after their workout, perhaps they are on their lunch break and don't have time to shower until later when they get home. Leaving perspiration on the body for hours after exercising is one of the many causes of bacterial vaginosis.
